A WORD ABOUT OWNING A PORTRAIT OF SOMEONE YOU MAY NOT KNOW:
People sometimes assume that the only reason one would have a portrait of a person hanging on their walls is if they know that person. I maintain that a portrait be considered as a painting first and foremost. The skill involved in painting a portrait, and the mood or expression that the subject is imparting is not reliant upon knowing the person. Here is a lovely email I received from a collector who purchased the award-winning portrait featured in the slide show directly above (Number 1):
"Dear Lilianne,
Just wanted to touch base and let you know I purchased a tiny painting of yours in Dubbo NSW Australia from the Mortimore Prize in 2010.
For such a tiny painting it fills the room. It was a Christmas present to my husband after he expressed it was his favourite painting in the show, it was also a stand out to me, we love it! Just wanted to let you know it came to a good home."
Regards, Gill
