installation: memory in yellow
I love to read, and can no more imagine a life without books and reading than without the possibility to create art. Memory in Yellow is dedicated to a distinct childhood memory. The setting: an elementary classroom with old fashioned desks. The class reading material: a graphically illustrated Dick and Jane book, starring their dog Spot.
The memory in question is the precise moment when I put it all together - the letters and the sounds to form words. I remember the moment when I could read, and the excitement and pride I felt have remained with me to this very day.
Memory in Yellow was first exhibited in in Washington DC's Artomatic in 2009, and was then selected by microWave Projects in 2012 for inclusion in Art in a Box, Washington's foray into reconfiguring shipping containers into public art spaces (SEE VIDEO BELOW).
