installation: L'origine c'est moi
In December 2010, I set out on a two-month residency in Paris with the goal of exploring the essence of the feminine mystique in a way that I could personally relate to and express in artistic terms.
With no road map in place nor any pre-determined starting point, I allowed the hand of fate to lead me on this journey. A series of serendipitous circumstances led me to spend my time in Paris at the d'Orsay Museum as the first authorized copyist of Gustave Courbet's notoriously erotic painting L'Origine du monde (1866).
The experience blossomed into the making of a documentary, the creation of a mixed media work and a host of writing opportunities. The project is ongoing. Stay tuned for further updates.

The following is a trailer from my documentary about copying Courbet's work. It is scheduled to be screened a the Gustave Courbet Museum in Ornans, France in the summer of 2014.
After returning to the United States, I incorporated my own copy of L'Origine du monde into a photographic grid. The work is entitled L'Origine c'est moi conveying a universal sisterhood to which all women belong.
